Is Shreyas Iyer India’s new ODI captain?

On Friday, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said that speculations that Shreyas Iyer could take over as India’s ODI captain from Rohit Sharma were “news to me.” He also said that there had been no talks about the topic.

Saikia told the Indian media that there had been no talks on the ODI captaincy yet.

“I didn’t know that. Saikia said, “There have been no such talks.”

Many people think Shreyas Iyer would be a good choice to head the national team because he has guided several IPL teams to the finals in a row and was the highest run scorer in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Iyer was also left out of India’s 15-man team for the Asia Cup 2025, which is important.

Last Thursday, the 15-member Indian team for the Asia Cup 2025 was named. Suryakumar Yadav will stay on as captain, and Shubman Gill will return as vice-captain of the T20I team.

It is important to note that the eight-team competition will start on September 9 with the first game between Afghanistan and Hong Kong.

There are eight teams in the competition, who are split into two groups. Pakistan and India are in Group A, together with the UAE and Oman. Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong are in Group B.

India will start their campaign against the UAE in Dubai on September 10. On September 14, they will play Pakistan, which everyone is looking forward to. Finally, they will play Oman in Abu Dhabi on September 19.

India’s squad for the Asia Cup:

Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Shubman Gill (vice captain), Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube , Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakravarthy , Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson.
