Virat Kohli Breaks Tendulkar List A Record
As the Indian batting superstar on Wednesday, Virat Kohli redefined the cricketing excellence with him becoming the first ever player to achieve Indian cricket player Sachin Tendulkar long-standing List A record of becoming the fastest player to hit 16,000 runs in the format. In representing Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Andhra in Bengaluru, Kohli reached the milestone of 330 innings only – a huge 61 short of Tendulkar.
The landmark was in the presence of a dominating century at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1 when Kohli once more displayed his famous calmness and shot making skills. A century marked by longevity only, but his unmatched consistency, his 58 th List A century, cemented his legacy in the limited-overs game.
Kohli now tops a list of elite players that has been topped by some of the most great batters of all times in the history of the sport that includes Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Gordon Greenidge, Graham Gooch and Sir Vivian Richards. It is worth mentioning that Kohli is also the fastest to reach 1,000 milestone in List A cricket with 10,000+, as another witness to his supremacy in time and situation.
The success is timed at a time when Kohli is still doing well in domestic cricket and this is an indication that he is committed to the sport even outside the global arena. His Vijay Hazare Trophy performance has also given a huge boost to the campaign of Delhi.
Meanwhile the other Indian hero Rohit Sharma was hitting the headlines in the same tournament with a staggering 155-run performance in Mumbai against Sikkim. The 18-four and nine-six innings made Rohit the highest scorer of 150-plus scores in List A cricket, along with David Warner.
The two performances by Kohli and Rohit once again, together, emphasized the great depth of batting India possessed and the legacy of modern-day legends of India.
