Shakib Opens Up on Lahore Qalandars Move Ahead of PSL 10

After joining two-time champions Lahore Qalandars for the remaining Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 matches, set to take place from May 17 to 25, former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan has expressed his enthusiasm.
Officially announcing Shakib’s acquisition on Thursday, the franchise confirmed that the seasoned all-rounder had been brought in to replace Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand. Mitchell missed the rest of the season after suffering a hand injury during Qalandars’ home loss to arch-rivals Karachi Kings on May 4.
“Joining Lahore Qalandars is Shakib Al Hasan, the renowned all-rounder from Bangladesh. The team said he has replaced Daryl Mitchell, who missed our home game against Karachi due to a hand injury.
Shakib went unsold in the PSL 10 player draft earlier this year, but Qalandars had apparently kept him under active consideration for a possible mid-season entry.
Commenting on this possibility, Shakib said:
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan expressed his delight at joining the team, “I’m incredibly thrilled to join Lahore Qalandars for the present PSL season. Shakib remarked, “We are in a pivotal point of the competition, thus every game counts.”
“I have always liked watching this competition, and now I am excited to help on the field. “I’m excited to be a part of the group as we push for a strong finish; Qalandars have great supporters and a strong team spirit,” he said.
The PSL is not foreign to the former all-rounder. Though he only appeared in one game that season, he played for Peshawar Zalmi in 2023 and represented Karachi Kings in the first season of the league in 2016.
With one half-century to his credit, he has overall shown in 14 PSL games, scoring 181 runs at an average of 16.45. Having the ball, the left-arm spinner has captured eight wickets in twelve innings with best figures of 2/14.
November 2024 saw his last competitive outing as he represented the Bangla Tigers in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.
For Lahore Qalandars, who are still battling for a playoff position in PSL 10, Shakib’s entrance comes at a critical junctur.
With nine points from nine games now ranked fourth, the Qalandars have to win their last league game against fifth-ranked Peshawar Zalmi if they are to maintain hope.
