Press pool trip: enr in Scotland with Ursula von der Leyen as EU and US reach trade deal
On Sunday, July 27, two journalists from European Newsroom (enr) agencies travelled to Scotland with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to report on behalf of the enr’s 23 partner agencies from across Europe.
Just days ahead of the August 1 tariff deadline imposed by Washington, the EU chief met with US President Donald Trump at his golf resort in Turnberry to negotiate a trade deal.
The two enr pool journalists from the German press agency dpa and the Italian news agency ANSA were among the first to hear about the deal at a press conference following the meeting.
In true enr fashion, Ansgar Haase from dpa and Michele Esposito from ANSA shared any information acquired – including text and photo – during the trip with the pool.
This marked the sixth press pool trip for the European Newsroom. It was the first time that not one, but two agencies from the enr network were given a spot on a trip to accompany von der Leyen.
In addition to von der Leyen, Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič was also present in Turnberry.
Several enr agencies published news stories about their visit to Scotland on their wires.
