Macron calls for more regulation of social networks in Europe
Paris – “Our foolishness is here. These are platforms that are made to sell personalized advertising,” said Emmanuel Macron at the Peace Forum in Paris, a series of debates dedicated to global governance.
Today, “the biggest buyers of fake accounts are the Russians (…) to destabilize European democracies,” he stated. “We are in interference on steroids.”
According to him, the platforms are driven “by a process that is to create maximum excitement, which will create the maximum traffic to maximize their ad pages and thus, all the meritocratic order that founded our democracies, a relationship to argumentation, truth, is completely thrown into the air.”
On the social network “X, if you do not immediately come across far-right content, it means you are poorly organized,” the head of state asserted.
In this context, “we will carry a much more powerful agenda of protection and regulation in Europe,” Mr. Macron indicated. (October 29, 2025)
