Zimbabwe to Host Sri Lanka for August-September White-Ball Series

On Thursday, Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) said they were adding a multi-format white-ball series against Sri Lanka to their already full summer schedule. The series will run from August 29 to September 7.

The specifics say that Sri Lanka will visit Zimbabwe for two ODIs and a three-match T20I series. All of these games will take place at the Harare Sports Club in Harare. The multi-format white-ball series is just one more thing Chevron has to do this summer. They have a two-match home Test series against South Africa, a T20I tri-series against South Africa and New Zealand, and a two-match Test series against the Blackcaps.

The series is a very important chance for the home team to be ready for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Regional Qualifiers, which will be held in Zimbabwe from September 19 to October 4.

For those who don’t know, Zimbabwe last played in the T20 mega event in 2022. They didn’t make it to the most recent one, which was co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies in 2024.

Sri Lanka last played in Zimbabwe in 2023 as part of the ODI World Cup Qualifiers. Their last bilateral series in the country was in 2016.

ZC MD Givemore Makoni confirmed the news and said he hoped the two teams will play exciting cricket. He also called the series “crucial” for their T20 World Cup qualification campaign.

Makoni said in a statement, “We are happy to confirm that Sri Lanka will visit Zimbabwe for what we hope will be an exciting and competitive series.”

“Cricket matches between our two countries have always been fun, and this tour comes at a very important time for our team as we get ready for the T20 World Cup qualifying campaign,” he said.
