England emerged four wickets up on Ireland in the second match of the group stage at the Rose Bowl on Tuesday, extending their tournament winning streak with a low-scoring victory against Ireland in the T20 World Cup 2026. The Irish were restricted to 118-9 in their 20 overs, having been given the ball first. England’s bowlers kept Ireland scoreless all day, a team which had no chance of developing any significant partnerships.
Sophie Ecclestone then took the bull by the horns, delivering a disciplined spell which ensured England were in control of the innings. England responded with early resistance from the bowlers from Ireland, who also slowed England up for a short time in the middle innings. But it was a vital team effort between skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight that put the chase on ice.
Sciver-Brunt had a controlled and effective effort with 48 off 37 deliveries, including four fours. Her knock was the mainstay of the chase before her retirement out nine runs from the target, putting England on a winning side to end the innings on a tactical note.
Heather Knight was solid for England, with her 26 off 23 runs coming off the bat in a manner that was consistent, helping to keep the pressure on in crucial moments of the chase, as Danni Wyatt-Hodge was quick off the mark with 16 off 16. Ireland bowlers had a spirited performance in spite of the outcome. Aimee Maguire and Orla Prendergast both contributed to picking up two wickets each, putting England under pressure at two points of the innings.
