Will FIFA change the rules of football?

Football is constantly evolving, and this is reflected in the rules.

The Fédération Internationale de Association (FIFA) has announced a revolutionary change to the laws of football. During this year’s Club World Cup, held in the United States from June 14 to July 13, referees will wear body cameras, giving fans a new perspective on watching the matches.

As the excitement builds, fans around the world — especially those from South Asia — can elevate their experience even more with the 1xBet code offer for Bangladesh, unlocking exclusive bonuses and promotions tailored for football lovers.

Pierluigi Collina, chairman of FIFA’s Referees Committee, explained that the cameras will allow fans to see events on the pitch through the eyes of the referees, offering a unique insight into the decision-making process. “It’s a good opportunity to offer spectators a new experience from a perspective that has never been available before,” Collina said.

More than a hundred referees at the Club World Cup

A total of 117 referees from 41 countries have been selected for the tournament: 35 referees, 58 assistant referees and 24 VAR officials. FIFA makes a statement that new technology and stricter rules are aimed at raising the standards of refereeing and the dynamics of the game.

The 2025 Club World Cup, featuring 32 teams from six confederations, promises to be a historic event, and the introduction of cameras on referees is another step by FIFA towards innovation in football. However, it is not known whether they will be accepted.

New considerations, new rules

One of the changes is the introduction of Wenger’s law. In 2018, the legendary coach of Arsenal was appointed director of global football development. The request of the French refers to the offside rule.

“The rule, proposed in 2021, would aim to change the definition of offside in a way that favors forwards. Simply put, a player will only be declared in an offside position if his whole body is behind the last defender. So no more offside by a few millimeters as we currently see,” it was announced.

The second principle would be the implementation of the Challenger system, as we know it from volleyball or tennis. “Currently, only referees have the right to use VAR. Namely, thanks to the Challenger rule, coaches could, like tennis players, have the opportunity to request the use of video footage to analyze actions they consider questionable,” we read. As in these disciplines, the number of interventions will be limited.

The third point of the meeting is the discussion about the possibility of interrupting the game, as in rugby or basketball. “The referees could decide to stop the game clock in case of a disputed situation or a serious injury. The goal is of course to avoid a big loss of time and focus on the actual game time,” it was emphasized.

These are some of the most interesting rules being considered, and it remains to be seen whether FIFA will propose any changes.
