Who Broke Muhammad Rizwan’s T20I Record?
Austrian batter Karanbir Singh has officially surpassed Mohammad Rizwan, a former Pakistan captain, for the record of the most T20I runs in a single calendar year and established a new record with 1,488 runs in 32 games.
Rizwan had already scored 1,326 in 29 matches in 2021 and maintained an impressive average of 73.66 and a strike rate of 134.89. However, Khanbir was slightly below the milestone with a relatively low average of 51.31 and a strike rate of 174.85 which was unbelievable with 13 fifties and two centuries.
Karanbir demonstrated his consistency and explosive batting during the four-match T20I series that Austria played against Romania. He scored 57 runs in the first game of the series in 27 balls and 90 in the second game of the series in 46 balls. Then, he made up 74 off 44 and a quick 27 off 12 balls and solidified his lead in the shortest form.
Only two other players have passed 1,000 T20I runs in one season, with Suryakumar Yadav of India scoring 1,164 runs in 2022 and Bilal Zalmai of Austria scoring 1,008 runs in 2025. This success shows how competitive the associate nations have become in international cricket, and the Austrians are now yielding record-breakers.
Elsewhere, one of the star players in the T20Is, Mohammad Rizwan, has been omitted from the Pakistani team to play the three-match T20I series against South Africa, which begins on October 28 at Rawalpindi. Babar Azam and Naseem Shah, who are considered the star players, will play in the format and will offer experience to the Men in Green.
The second and third T20S will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on October 31 and November 1. The series will then conclude with a three-match ODI series at the Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad, where the last international cricket match will be played after 17 years.
