The Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced the continuation of the fight for the rights of BH carriers in the EU

Sarajevo, (Fena) – Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina Edin Forto held a meeting today with ambassadors of EU member states in BiH focused on challenges in the transport sector, including the recent protests of professional drivers.
– We continue the fight for full, European rights for our drivers. I requested that a special item dedicated to the problems of professional drivers be included on the agenda of the 8th session of the BiH – EU Stabilization and Association Committee so that we can address this issue as a priority and systematically – stated Forto.
EU representatives emphasized that the EU and member states will continue to consider how EU-relevant issues can be addressed within existing frameworks, and that they remain available to the authorities in BiH for all topics within their jurisdiction.
They also called on political actors in BiH to refocus on the European path, including reaching an agreement on the Growth Plan. In this context, it was emphasized that the Ministry of Communications and Transport of BiH has a key role, especially in the areas of connectivity and digitalization.
Transporters in Bosnia and Herzegovina organized blockades of roads across the country in early September 2025 due to high operating costs, including fuel excise taxes, high tolls, and slow customs procedures.
In addition to domestic demands, they are also seeking changes in relations with the European Union, particularly the abolition of rules that treat drivers from BiH as tourists and limit their stay in the EU to 90 days, as well as the implementation of the AETR agreement and adherence to the Stabilization and Association Agreement to enable them to work on equal terms in the European transport sector.
