Taiwan: the EU accuses China of “endangering international stability” with its military maneuvers
Brussels – “This exercise only increases tensions between the two sides of the strait,” a spokesperson for the European Union’s foreign policy service said in a statement.
“Peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are of strategic importance for regional and global security and prosperity,” said the spokesperson, Anitta Hipper, adding: “We reiterate our calls for restraint and to avoid any action that could aggravate tensions.”
Similar reactions were made public in Paris and Berlin. France “has followed with concern” the Chinese maneuvers, calling on “all parties to refrain from any escalation,” while Germany stated that this exercise “increases tensions” and “harms stability in the Taiwan Strait.”
The authorities of Taiwan considered that the Chinese maneuvers intended to simulate its maritime blockade had failed. The island has never been governed by Communist China, but Beijing believes that it has belonged to China since “ancient times.” (30 December 2025)
