India A vs Sri Lanka A Lead Expands
India A vs Sri Lanka A contest shifted decisively in favor of the visitors as a disciplined bowling performance secured a commanding 122-run first-innings lead on day three of the unofficial Test at Galle International Stadium. Auqib Nabi’s four wicket pickings took the pressure off Sri Lanka A’s batting line-up at opportune moments. India A’s opening stand at 452/6d was a solid foundation to build on, and they whetted their appetite with an attacking pace display by Jaffna bowlers.
The day was renewed with Sri Lanka A back in at 113/2 with Nuwanidu Fernando and Ashen Bandara plying off well. Together they had a decent 105-run partnership before Fernando left after making a contribution with a measured shot selection before a well-compromised 84. Then Bandara started to gain momentum, even though the hosts were still being outdone, with him developing a 117-run stand with captain Sahan Arachchige that briefly changed the dynamics.
They played with the idea of strike rotation and strategic boundary hitting in order to keep the game flowing. But as the bottom fell out it was a few quick successive dismissals that got the attention of the audience. After a steady 268/3, Sri Lanka A went into a collapse phase which India A exploited effectively to go 268/5. Nabi got some assist from Yash Thakur as well who struck some breakneckball shots to help India A’s bowlers.
The visitors kept the line and time in check and denied scoring chances, bringing the game to a quick end at 330. As far as match control is concerned, India A are looking at a huge advantage in the second phase. With 122-run lead, they have the flexibility of their own tempo and can put pressure on the scoreboard.
