Suryakumar Yadav Explains No Handshakes with Pakistan

Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of India, said that his squad would not shake hands with the players from Pakistan during their ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
During the press conference after the game, Yadav was asked to explain the strange behavior that led to him and his Pakistani counterpart Salman Ali Agha not shaking hands at the coin toss. The Indian team also didn’t come out of their dugout to greet the other team after the exciting game.
In response, Yadav said that the team management, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and the Indian government were all “aligned” behind the decision. He said they were there to play the match.
Yadav said, “We, our government, and the BCCI were all on the same page. When we got here, we made a decision, and I think we just came here to play the game.”
Yadav, who turned 35 on Sunday, called India’s seven-wicket win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 “a perfect return gift” at the post-match presentation.
“Great feeling and a great gift back to India.” “Human tendency that it keeps running in your mind when you think about it,” Yadav remarked.
“You really want to win it, and when you do, you have it ready.” “Stay there and bat till the end” was one thing he always wanted to do.
He also said that the current T20 World Cup champions saw the encounter against Pakistan as “just another game.” He also said that their win in the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy earlier this year at the same venue set the tone for the match.
We think it’s just another game for the whole team. We get ready the same way for all of our opponents. That happened a few months ago. The squad that won the CT set the tone. I usually like spinners because they are in charge of the game in the center.
