Sri Lanka squad for Asia Cup 2025

On Thursday, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced a 16-member team for the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025, which will take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 9 to 28.
Charith Asalanka, an all-around batsman, will lead the reigning champions in the continental event, which will be played in T20I format. The team had star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who wasn’t chosen for the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe that would come before the eight-team competition.
The series will take place in Harare from September 3 to 7, ending just a day before the start of the Asia Cup 2025.
During the T20I series against Bangladesh in July, Hasaranga hurt his hamstring and hasn’t played since.
He was already a big absentee from Sri Lanka’s selection for the two-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, which starts on Friday. His absence from the following T20Is had many even more worried that he wouldn’t be able to play in the Asia Cup.
Sri Lanka’s Asia Cup 2025 squad will not alter any more. Hasaranga will take the place of uncapped spinner Vishen Halambage and all-rounder Dushan Hemantha.
Sri Lanka is in Group B and will play Bangladesh at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on September 13. They will then play Hong Kong and Afghanistan in their last group-stage games on September 15 and 18, respectively.
