Scotland’s Approov Mobile Security raises €5.7 million for their mobile app security platform

Edinburgh-based Approov Mobile Security has closed a €5.7 million Series A funding round to innovate mobile app and API security for the AI era, enabling hem to accelerate R&D and scale global presence.
The round was led by the Investment Fund for Scotland, managed by Maven Capital Partners. The round also included participation from Souter Investments and existing investors Lanza techVentures and Scottish Enterprise.
“As the threat landscape continues to evolve, developers and enterprises alike are recognising that mobile app security cannot be an afterthought. This funding marks a pivotal moment in our mission to ensure that every mobile app instance is authenticated and that backend APIs are protected from fraud, abuse, and unauthorised access,” says Ted Miracco, CEO, Approov Mobile Security.
Founded in 2001, Approov is a cloud-native mobile app security platform trusted by global leaders across eCommerce, finance, healthcare, gaming, and connected vehicles. Founded as CriticalBlue in Edinburgh with U.S. operations in Palo Alto, Approov launched its mobile API protection platform in 2017, building on expertise in binary analysis and runtime integrity.
The platform aims to ensure only genuine, untampered apps can access backend services by applying a Zero Trust approach to mobile security. With runtime attestation, dynamic API secret delivery, built-in RASP, and full mobile-to-cloud visibility, Approov empowers security, DevOps, and compliance teams to defend against bots, emulators, and repackaged apps.
“Approov is a leading innovator in mobile app and API security with proven applications in multiple target sectors. With their strong IP and the growing demand for API-level defences across the industry, the business is uniquely positioned to lead this next era of mobile security. We look forward to working with Ted and the team to drive the business forward at such an exciting point in the company’s growth journey,” said Craig McGill, Investment Manager at Maven Capital Partners.
According to the company, AI-driven threats are accelerating, and traditional approaches to mobile security – like code obfuscation – can no longer keep up. Approov’s mobile attestation technology reportedly offers a cloud-first, real-time solution to protect mobile apps and APIs from tampering, fraud, and unauthorised access – even in hostile environments.
With regulations like the EU Digital Markets Act and UK’s DMCC Bill reshaping how mobile apps are distributed, secure and independent deployment is becoming business-critical. Approov says their technology empowers developers to securely distribute apps directly to consumers, bypassing traditional gatekeepers and reclaiming revenue lost to platform fees.
“This investment validates Approov’s vision of a safer mobile app ecosystem. With increasing cyber risks driven by AI, Approov solutions provide the robust, scalable security mobile developers need to protect their applications and API communications. We are grateful for the confidence our investors have shown and are excited about the opportunity to expand our footprint in this critical market,” added Lucio Lanza, Chairman, Approov Mobile Security and Founder, Lanza techVentures
