Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha confessed that the lack of performance in bowling and fielding had cost his team a lot when Sri Lanka won the three-match series 1-1 by 14 runs apiece in the third T20I at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.

Pakistan, even though it did well at the beginning with the bat, lacked control at the important stages of the match. In his post-match presentation, Agha admitted that although the batting strategy of the Pakistani team was good, the bowling team gave up too many scores in crucial situations.

“It was a great game. We swung very well, and with the ball we over swung. As far as bowling and fielding is concerned, we must do better,” Agha said.

The Pakistan captain also lauded Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka whose explosive late cameo changed the fortunes of the match in the favor of its hosts. Agha confessed that after Shanaka got his rhythm then Pakistan could not hold back the scoring.

A good hitter of the ball he is. He can wreck any bowling whenever he starts, and that is what he did to us, added he.

In pursuit of 161, Pakistan started well with Agha and Saim Ayub forming a quick-paced partnership. The tide however turned with the dismissal of Agha who scored a 45 off 12 balls in a very short period. It was followed by a match-turning spell by Wanindu Hasaranga who boasted of four wickets and ruined the pursuit of Pakistan.

Even though briefly Khawaja Nafay and Mohammad Nawaz partnership stirred a ray of hope, Sri Lanka bowling with discipline in the death overs won the day.

Agha was still positive even after the defeat by stating that his side could get better in the future before they were assigned to new tasks.

I am pleased with the batting unit and how we went about the chase. We have to work on bowling, we are working on that, said he.
