Qalandars Confirm Raza’s Replacement Ahead of PSL 10 Knockouts

For the playoff stage of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Lahore Qalandars have brought in Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz as a substitute for Sikandar Raza.

Mehidy is likely to arrive in Lahore by Tuesday after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) issued his No Objection Certificate (NOC). Wednesday marks the start of the PSL playoffs; Qalandars are set to face the Eliminator Thursday. The opponent of them is still unknown.

Mehidy revealed in a recent interview his excitement about the chance even if he might just be featured in one game. The all-rounder also expressed his wish to present a case for his comeback to Bangladesh’s T20I team using this stint. Neither the forthcoming five-match T20I series in Pakistan nor the squad now engaged in a T20I series against the UAE in Sharjah is he part of.

PSL continued?

After the PSL restarted following a halt due to border tensions between Pakistan and India, the Qalandars had momentarily brought Sikandar Raza back; but, he was only available for one match before joining the Zimbabwe team for a one-off four-day Test against England at Trent Bridge.

The Qalandars contacted former Bangladesh captain Shakib al Hasan and Sri Lanka’s Bhanuka Rajapaksa as David Wiese and Sam Billings were not returning for the rest of the competition.

Shakib Al Hasan made his PSL 10 debut for Lahore Qalandars on Sunday, but he had a poor performance falling for a golden duck and giving 18 runs in two wicketless overs against Peshawar Zalmi.

Though Litton withdrew because to an injury, fellow Bangladesh players Rishad Hossain (Qalandars), Nahid Rana, and Litton Das (Karachi Kings) had already competed in the event before his arrival.

Shakib’s challenges notwithstanding, Qalandars maintained their playoff chances with a 26-run victory in a 13-over encounter curtailed by rain at Rawalpindi. Starring with 60 off 36 balls, Fakhar Zaman drove Qalandars to 149/8.

Pursuing 150, Zalmi stumbled and finished at 123/8; Daniel Sams was unbroken on 26. Peshawar missed playoff eligibility for the first time in PSL history. With 11 points from 10 games, the victory pushed Qalandars to third position among Quetta Gladiators, Islamabad United, and Karachi Kings in the playoffs.
