PSL 11 Adopts Two-Phase Format 2026

The 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League will enter a new era in its history since the 11th edition will be the first tournament to have eight teams and will take the form of a two-stage competition, which the tournament will take place within a tight 39 day period.

At the new format adopted, PSL 11 will start with a single-league phase where all the eight teams will play each other once. This introductory phase makes sure that there is a level of competition and that the various franchises have an equal chance and exposure in front of the tournament passes to the next stage.

The next phase of the competition will be a Super Four after the league round. The eight teams shall be divided into two segments of four with the individual teams playing three matches. This is the second round and will be fought by 12 matches increasing the intensity as the teams strive to qualify to playoffs.

After the stage of Super Four, two best teams will be guaranteed a place in the playoff. The knockout stage will have four matches including the final that will be used to determine the PSL 2026 champion.

Although the league has increased to eight teams, by keeping at least 10 games per team, tournament organizers have made sure that the competitive workload is the same as it was in the past editions.

The PSL 11 is going to be held in 5 cities in Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multiyan and Faisalabad. Similarly, this signifies a milestone in the history of PSL since it will be played at Iqbal Stadium at Faisalabad, a venue that has never hosted any matches in the past.

The Pakistan Super League began in 2016 and has since then grown to five franchises and six teams in 2018 as of today. The two new teams that will be added in the next edition point to the increased commercial power of the league and its expanding presence in the international T20 cricket.
