PSL 10: Islamabad United defeat Multan Sultans

Islamabad United defeated Multan Sultans by seven wickets in the 13th PSL 10 match at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. Three wickets and 17 balls later, the visitors easily reached 169 runs. In the third over, Ubaid Shah dismissed in-form opener Sahibzada Farhan with 29 runs on the board for the three-time champions. He scored 22 off 13 deliveries with three fours and a six.
United had a dominating lead when Gous and seasoned Colin Munro added 81 runs for the second wicket before Munro was bowled by compatriot Michael Bracewell in the 11th over. Munro scored 5 fours and 2 sixes in 28 balls. Gous, however, scored a 45-ball 80 with six fours and five sixes to top United’s score and return unbeaten.
He added 55 runs with Mohammad Nawaz, who scored 21 off 19 balls. Chris Jordan, Ubaid, and Bracewell took one wicket each for Sultans, while the remainder went wicketless.
The home team had a cautious start as their in-form openers, skipper Mohammad Rizwan and Yasir Khan, scored 51 runs before the latter fell to Mohammad Nawaz in the seventh over.
After scoring 87 runs against Lahore Qalandars at the same venue on Tuesday, Yasir managed only 29 runs off 17 deliveries with two fours and as many sixes against toppers United.
United’s Shadab Khan removed skipper Rizwan after he and Usman exchanged 65 runs for the second wicket.
Rizwan scored 36 off 37 deliveries with three boundaries. After modest contributions, Michael Bracewell and Iftikhar Ahmed died, handing the Sultans two more batting losses. In contrast, Usman was run out in the penultimate over, ending his defiance.
He scored 61 from 40 balls, including four fours and sixes, to remain the Sultans’ leading scorer. Kamran Ghulam’s 13-run cameo from six deliveries, including one four and a six, gave the Sultans a late boost. Shadab, Nawaz, Holder, and Riley Meredith took one wicket each for United.
