Pakistan vs Bangladesh Test series revenge?
Pakistan vs Bangladesh Test series has begun with a composed message from Pakistan skipper Shan Masood who is strongly denying any emotional story before the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. However, at the pre-series press conference at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, Masood made it clear that the team is not coming into the match with revenge in their minds after being shocked by their defeat in the home country in 2024.
Pakistan vs Bangladesh Test series already has attracted attention for the rivalry between the two teams and particularly after Pakistan suffered its first-ever Test defeat on their home soil last year when the Bangladesh team emerged victorious. But Masood underlined that international cricket must be based on the performance, preparation and consistency on the pitch and not on emotions such as revenge.
Pakistan has a good respect of Bangladesh growth in Test cricket and for their quality display in the previous match, Masood said. He pointed out that Bangladesh outplayed Pakistan in a situation which was supposed to be advantageous for the former. This introspection has led Pakistan to relook at their approach, rather than focusing on what they have achieved in the past, he said.
Masood’s remarks have also come at a time when the Pakistan side has been undergoing a change of thinking with regard to professionalism and process-oriented cricket. The team has chosen to build pressure through a more emotional framing approach, rather than being disciplined and tuning into sub-continental conditions.
The first Test from May 8-12 will be a pivotal beginning to the series for both sides and could be a game-changer. This match should be competitive, but not necessarily confrontational, as both sides, Bangladesh with their current mindset and Pakistan with the new regime under Masood, are confident at home.
