Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 Heavy Loss
On Sunday, Pakistan was defeated by 61 runs by India and it became a significant blow to Pakistan regarding the 2026 ICC Men T20 World Cup. The Pakistan were bowled out in 18 overs to make only 114. The loss gave strain to the team and it increased the criticism by former players.
India recorded 175 runs in 7 overs, with Ishan Kishan, making 77 out of 40 balls, winning the award of the Player of the Match. The batting in Pakistan failed miserably as it was not able to put any significant resistance. Analysts indicate that pre-match scandals and excessive dependence on the elder team members might have had an influence to the performance of the team.
Former captain Mohammad Yousuf urged a change of direction, abandoning the older three of Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Shadab Khan. He stressed on the necessity of new blood and new talent instead of victories over weaker clubs. This was what Yousuf tweeted: Time is out with Shaheen, Babar, and Shadab. Pakistan T20 team requires fresh faces, not artificial victories over weaker teams.
Ramiz Raja, who was once captain and the PCB chairman, described the batting performance of Pakistan to be a disaster. He told me that failure in a series of attempts with the same bowling of Indians can not improve with time. The previous opening batsman Ahmed Shehzad also criticized the management of the team to retain the same players.
The defeat raises the issue that Pakistan desperately requires restructuring of its team and new approaches. Critics believe the team should incorporate young talent, redefine leadership and create depth to compete on the highest level. The fans and ex players are all demanding a stern action to be taken to avert further embarrassment.
