Pakistan Penalized Again for Slow Over-Rate in Champions Trophy

For the third straight game in their just finished three-match ODI series against New Zealand, Pakistan’s cricket team was fined. A slow over-rate during the third and last fifty-over match at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui has punished the Rizwan-led team five percent of their match fee.
This fine follows Pakistan’s whitewash 3-0 loss in the previously mentioned series, therefore ending a dismal visit for the tourists. After Pakistan dropped one over short of the necessary target, considering time allowances, Jeff Crowe, an Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees member, imposed the sentence.
Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel relates to minimum over-rate offences; players are fined five percent of their match fee for each over their side fails to bowl within the allocated time.
Following on-field umpires Chris Brown and Paul Reiffel, along with third umpower Michael Gough and fourth umpire Wayne Knights, Pakistan’s captain Mohammad Rizwan accepted the charge.
It is relevant to note that the Men in Green won just one match out of eight combined between five T20Is and three ODIs, thus they went through a humiliating tour.
In the T20I series Pakistan lost 4-1; Hasan Nawaz’s outstanding century helped to win the only match. The team lost 3-0 in the ODIs; none of its batters could offer a match-winning innings.
