Pakistan Beat UAE by 41 Runs to Enter Asia Cup 2025 Super Four

On Wednesday, Pakistan won the Dubai International Cricket Stadium by a narrow margin of 41 runs against the United Arab Emirates to earn their spot in the Super Four of the ACC Men T20 Asia Cup 2025. As the Men in Green made the job happen, skipper Salman Ali Agha acknowledged that his side still needs to hone its batting in order to emerge better against more formidable opponents in the future.

The first to bat, Pakistan relied on a steady half-century by Fakhar Zaman and a late flourish of Shaheen Shah Afridi, who unloaded an unbeaten 29 in 14 balls to make 146/9 in their 20 overs. The innings was spoilt however by another middle order meltdown that saw Pakistan lose its way to 110/7 before Shaheen changed the game with his fireworks bringing the total up to a defendable score.

The bowlers made sure that the pressure remained on UAE, crippling them far much below the target. Shaheen, a left-arm pacer, impressed with his bat and ball, and Saim Ayub made his most critical breakthroughs to underline the increasing role he plays as a multi-dimensional player to Pakistan.

At the victory, captain Salman Ali Agha was wary. He said Pakistan needed to do better during middle overs to continually push their totals over 170 a figure that might become crucial when going up against more formidable formations.

Looking forward to the Super Four stage Agha sounded confident but realistic. “We’re ready for any challenge. We will play good against anybody, as long as we continue playing the same way we have the past four months, he added.

Not only did the victory raise the morale of the Pakistani side but also gave credence to the idea that though the team has the shielding hitting to fend off small totals, that unleashing the batting side is the key to them being able to actually put a serious push up to take the Asia Cup.
