Nissanka Century Puts Sri Lanka on Top vs Bangladesh

On the second day of their second Test against Bangladesh at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground on Thursday, Sri Lanka took the lead thanks to Pathum Nissanka’s undefeated century.
At the end of the second day, the hosts were in a good position with 290 runs for 2 wickets in 78 overs, which gave them a 43-run lead over Bangladesh’s first innings total of 247. The host team got off to a good start in their innings thanks to their opening pair, Lahiru Udara and Nissanka, who put together 88 runs.
Taijul Islam finally broke the opening stand in the 24th over when he caught Udara. The right-handed batsman walked back after hitting four boundaries and scored 40 runs off of 65 balls. Nissanka then made another important partnership for Sri Lanka when he and Dinesh Chandimal, who had a lot of experience, combined 194 runs for the second wicket.
The two were in charge of the Bangladesh bowlers and seemed ready to keep their partnership going into the third day. But Nayeem Hasan broke it up by having Chandimal caught behind in the last few minutes of the second day.
Chandimal hit 93 runs off 153 balls, including 15 fours and a six, but he was just short of his well-deserved 17th Test century. Because he was fired too soon, Sri Lanka assigned Prabath Jayasuriya as nightwatchman. He did well to stay alive and was not out after facing 13 balls.
Nissanka, on the other hand, hit 18 boundaries and was unbeaten on 146 off 238 deliveries. He will now start Sri Lanka’s first innings again on the third day with Jayasuriya. Islam and Hasan could both take a wicket for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh started their first innings again earlier in the day at 220/8. Taijul Islam and Ebadot Hossain were out in the third over of the day after scoring eight runs off of 13 balls.
Islam, on the other hand, then recorded a one-sided 18-run partnership with number 11 Nahid Rana till eventually getting removed by Sonal Dinusha. He hit five boundaries to get 33 runs off 60 balls.
For Sri Lanka, Asitha and Dinusha both took three wickets, Vishwa Fernando took two, while Tharindu Ratnayake and Dhananjaya de Silva each took one.
