New EUFOR commander in BiH: EUFOR remains a reliable factor of stability and deterrence

Sarajevo, (Fena) – Major General Maurizio Fronda has taken over the duty of EUFOR commander in BiH, stating that the mission will remain a reliable factor of stability and deterrence. The handover ceremony was held at the Butmir base, with the participation of EUFOR members and, for the first time, a platoon of the Armed Forces of BiH.

The new commander emphasized that he has great respect for BiH and that he will work transparently and impartially, in cooperation with domestic institutions. The outgoing commander, Major General Florin-Marian Barbu, stressed that during his command EUFOR acted as a visible and calming presence despite political challenges in the country, and he thanked partners for their cooperation.

European military and diplomatic officials praised Barbu for strengthening cooperation with the Armed Forces of BiH and maintaining stability, and expressed confidence that Fronda will continue this mission. The ceremony symbolically marked the transfer of command from Romania to Italy.

The Head of the EU Delegation in Bosnia and Herzegovina Luigi Soreca stated that EUFOR, despite political pressures, acted in a balanced manner and remained a key pillar of stability in BiH, confirming its important role after the extension of the mandate. (22.01.)
