England Lions Collapse vs South Africa A Bowling

A South Africa A bowling attack had the best of the balling weapons and took control of the ball in the first ODI of the series at Grace Road, against England Lions. The home side were bowled out for 119 runs in a nine-wicket defeat.

The England Lions batters were trying to make a fine effort from the off but it wasn’t to be after choosing to bat first. It soon went against them as wickets started to tumble at regular intervals. The batting department did not build partnerships and it was under constant pressure from disciplined South African bowling.

The middle order was unblemished as James Coles offered the only opposition. He struck with a regular 42 off 58 balls. He came up with some stability but without the assistance from the other end. Skipper Jordan Cox had just 20 runs and the rest of the top and middle order failed to contribute anything substantial.

Apart from the big hitters only Henry Crocombe had reached double figures. The Lions, however, did not last long as they were dismissed in 26.1 overs. Ottneil Baartman lead the South Africa attack with a sharp spell. In five overs, he picked up three wickets for 17 runs. He played with accuracy and movement and made it very difficult for the batsmen to score.

Gerald Coetzee also had his say with three kills. He took 42 runs in eight overs, and broke his partnerships at the right time too. Lions were unable to recover from the efforts of Kwena Maphaka and Bjorn Fortuin who picked up two wickets each.
