Narendra Modi Stadium Likely to Host 2026 T20 Final

The Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad has become the front-runner in hosting the final of the ICC T20 world cup 2026 and the international cricket council (ICC) is likely to fix the entire schedule of the tournament in the near future.

Indian media has reported that the officials of the Board of Control Cricket in India (BCCI) recently had a meeting to finalise the host venues, and instead of the lengthy list of 2023 ODI World Cup, they settled on a smaller list.

BCCI is considering Ahmedabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai as the major cities to host the matches in India with each city projected to host at least six matches.

It is also of great technology that Sri Lanka will also be a co-host, and three stadiums are likely to be selected to the island nation, but it has not been confirmed yet.

Lot of the ICC and BCCI are also liaising with logistical and political issues especially in matches involving Pakistan. In case Pakistan gets to the final, the game will be reportedly played in a neutral location. On the same note, India-Pakistan match will be held in Colombo only to maintain the unilateral decision made by the boards not to play matches in each other territories.

In the meantime, host cities like Bengaluru and Lucknow are under consideration, whilst places where the ICC Women held its 50-over World Cup, like Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Indore, and Navi Mumbai, are dismissed as host venues by the men.

Its main competition is the T20 World Cup 2026, which is set to begin at the beginning of next year, and the BCCI has already presented an estimated program to be followed to ICC. Upon confirmation, it will be another big cricketing step forward to India after the 2023 ODI World Cup was successful.
