Multan Sultans Sold to Walee Technologies for PSL 11
Waeli Technologies purchased Multan Sultans to a record Rs2.45 billion before PSL 11. The acquisition is one of the top franchise sales in the history of the Pakistan Super league. The annually payable fee to continue with the ownership in the next 10 years also comes with the winning bid.
The auction took place in Lahore and the sale was announced by the show host Fakhr-i-Alam. When the new owners announced that they would change the name of the team to Rawalpindi, the fans were shocked. “Are you ready for a surprise? Rawalpindi-bound, we will be going! said Ahsan Tahir is the CEO of Walee Technologies.
This is a radical shift in an effort to align the team with a new group of fans. The question that PSL fans have is what the rebranding would do to the identity of teams and their performance. Walee Technologies has taken an oath to invest in talent building and empower the squad before the 11 th edition of the league.
Mobile phone brand chairman of PCB Mohsin Naqvi congratulated Walee Technologies and appreciated the efforts of former board members in working with the franchise. Also, Naqvi said that it was a historic day in the life of PSL, and a historic day of the game of cricket in Pakistan. The sale reflects the rising commercial worth of the league and the rising corporate interest.
The next season is awaited eagerly by the fans to watch Rawalpindi in action. The new ownership and planning are expected to make the franchise compete against the established teams and inject enthusiasm in the league. Thus, the record sale is also an indicator of a good future of the tournament and its franchises as it sets a precedence in the direction of future PSL auctions.
