More than five million euros of EU funds for Slovenia for the digitalization of geospatial data

Ljubljana – The Slovenian Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved cohesion funds for the project of the Slovenian Geodetic Administration “Let’s Enter the Digital Space.” The project, with a total value of 9.4 million euros, aimed at digitizing the field of geospatial data, will be supported by the European Regional Development Fund with 5.3 million euros.

The “Let’s Enter the Digital Space” project is, according to the explanations of the Ministry of Cohesion, focused on the development of advanced digital solutions for the collection, analysis, and use of geospatial data and represents an important step towards the digital transformation of the Slovenian space.

Its main goal is to establish a national geospatial digital twin – a virtual model of the physical space that will enable real-time monitoring of events, analyses, simulations, and predictions of changes in space.

An advanced digital data system will be established, based on modern technologies such as laser scanning (lidar), aerial photography, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. This will provide accurate and timely information about the state of the space and enable better decision-making in the fields of spatial planning, real estate management, disaster response, and crisis situations, as well as in planning sustainable development.

With the development of the digital twin, Slovenia, according to the ministry, is following the goals of the Digital Slovenia 2030 strategy, in which the establishment of a digital twin is defined as one of the central measures to accelerate digital innovations and improve the efficiency of public services. The project will also enable the development of advanced digital solutions and services based on geospatial data, artificial intelligence, multidimensional models, and modern visualizations.
