Mickoski: Today Bulgaria worked against us, but Macedonia remains proud, we will not allow a new betrayal

Skopje – We remain proud, with our heads held high. Today Bulgaria worked against us. Today the world saw the challenges and injustices we face as a state and a nation in the 21st century. Today, comfortably and in plain sight of everyone, we can tell Europe that the truth has come to light, said Prime Minister Christian Mitskoski at an extraordinary press conference.

As Mitskoski stated from the party headquarters, we are on the right side of history, “and Bulgaria has shown that it can also miss the right side.”

– Macedonia is blocked on its European path by Bulgaria, but not just now, but since 1990. It has a clear agenda and plan, driven by the thought of destroying the Macedonian nation and identity. But, let us leave a mark of the truth. This is our Krushevo Manifesto, we must mobilize with all our friends and allies. This is a fight for fundamental justice and values. However, this fight neither begins nor ends today; all these tribulations, no matter how tragic they are for Macedonia, have a successful dimension, Mitskoski emphasized regarding the voting on the report in the EP.

According to the Prime Minister, Macedonian history is rooted in injustices.

– The injustices are not only identity-based, through denial and betrayal, but they are also socio-economic; people have been displaced, fleeing from here. Today, only the methods are different, but the essence is identical. We will never confront the injustices if we do not name, identify, and overcome them, said Mitskoski.

The European Parliament today adopted the report by Austrian MEP Thomas Waitz on the country for 2023 and 2024 with 461 votes “in favor,” 121 “against,” and 107 “abstentions.” Before the vote on the document, amendments proposed by MEPs Andrzej Halicki on behalf of the European People’s Party (EPP), Kathleen Van Brempt on behalf of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D), and Dan Barna on behalf of the liberal group “Renew Europe” (RE) were adopted, which removed parts of the text in the report where “Macedonian language and identity” were mentioned.
