Mehidy Hasan Miraz Appointed Bangladesh ODI Captain

On Thursday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selected 27-year-old all-around player Mehidy Hasan Miraz as captain of their men’s ODI side for the next 12 months.

Miraz will take over from Najmul Hossain Shanto and start his job next month with a three-match series against Sri Lanka away from home. Miraz added that being named captain of Bangladesh was a dream come true and a happy occasion for him and his family.

He also said he trusts the players and wants them to keep playing for the country with passion and dedication.

“Being the captain of the national team is a dream come true.” I am really grateful for the Board’s trust in me. Miraz remarked, “This is a proud moment for me and my family.”

“I believe in this group because we have the skills and the mindset to play cricket without fear.” I want us to be brave when we talk about our feelings, stay committed, and keep playing with passion for the country.

Miraz has led Bangladesh in four ODIs when Shanto was away. He is one of only a few Bangladesh all-rounders, along with Mohammad Rafique, Mashrafe Mortaza, and Shakib Al Hasan, to have scored 1000 runs and taken 100 wickets in the format.

He has played 105 ODIs for Bangladesh so far, scoring 1617 runs and taking 110 wickets. He is now the fourth-best all-rounder in the ICC Men’s ODI rankings. Nazmul Abedeen, chairman of the BCB Cricket Operations Committee, said that Mehidy Hasan Miraz was chosen as Bangladesh’s ODI captain because he is consistent.

“Miraz has always done well with both bat and ball, and he brings a fighting spirit and contagious energy to the team. His performances, leadership skills, and general maturity make him a good candidate to lead the team through this difficult time in our ODI journey.

“We appreciate the positive attitude and character Shanto showed while he was captain.” He is still an important element of our leadership group and a significant player in the hitting unit.
