Bucharest – The Council of the European Union appointed Lucian Romaşcanu on Tuesday as a member representing Romania at the European Court of Auditors

“Mr. Romaşcanu has been appointed as a member of the European Court of Auditors for the period from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2031, replacing Mr. Viorel Ştefan. The Council makes these decisions based on proposals made by member states and after consulting the European Parliament,” according to a press release from the institution.

The European Parliament gave the green light on April 1 for the appointment of Lucian Romaşcanu, nominated by the Romanian government, as a member of the European Court of Auditors.

In accordance with the EU Treaty, members of the Court of Auditors must carry out their duties in full independence and in the general interest of the European Union.

The European Court of Auditors is the independent audit institution of the EU. The audit reports and opinions of the Court represent an essential link in the accountability chain in the EU and are used to ensure that those responsible for managing the budget and implementing EU policies are held accountable for their management actions.
