Litton Das injury update ahead of ODI

Litton Das injury will certainly be a selection concern for Bangladesh ahead of their ODI series against Zimbabwe and the team management has said he will come back in phases. The veteran wicket-keeper-batter should be fit to take part in the second match of the three-match series.

The 31-year-old was ruled out of the subsequent ODI series against Australia following his left calf muscle injury in Bangladesh and then was left out of the current T20I and ODI against Zimbabwe, too. He has been medically cleared but is still being assessed for performance readiness.

Das has made good improvements on his rehabilitation progress but is unlikely to take part in the first ODI as he hasn’t fully conditioned his match yet, Team physio Bayzedul Islam Khan said. The recovery strategy is currently focused on a gradual reintegration where the player needs to agree to the level of competitive intensity before being able to return to the playing XI.

Das has been added to Bangladesh’s squad for their upcoming Zimbabwe tour from July 6-11 at the Harare Sports Club. Having him in the group gives batting and wicket keeping depth to the side, while they get ready for their first game without him.

As far as squad management is concerned, the Litton Das injury will affect top order stability and middle phase rotation as he brought real value to those areas. The second ODI will be a significant boost for the Bangladesh side with his availability.

It’s the type of medical treatment that is being taken to ensure that the player is available in the short term, but in the longer term fit enough to perform well against the Sri Lankans, who Bangladesh are looking to get the best out of.
