Kaja Kallas: The meeting of the President of China with the leaders of Russia, Iran, and North Korea in Beijing, ‘a direct challenge to the international order’

The meeting of the President of China with the leaders of Russia, Iran, and North Korea in Beijing represents a “direct challenge to the international order,” said the EU High Representative, Kaja Kallas, during a press conference in Brussels today.
Referring to President Xi’s meeting with the leaders of Russia, Iran, and North Korea in Beijing, the head of European diplomacy stated that what we are seeing is “an authoritarian alliance seeking a rapid process towards a new world order,” which is “not just an anti-Western perspective, but a challenge to the international order built on rules.” Ms. Kallas did not fail to point out that China has supported Russia in its war against Ukraine, noting that all of this is a new reality that Europe must face.
Specifically regarding the Russia-Ukraine war, Ms. Kallas mentioned that “Russia does not truly wish to end this war,” emphasizing that for Europe this means more military, diplomatic, and economic support for Kyiv. She also stated that in the event of a ceasefire, “a militarily strong Ukraine is the strongest security guarantee.” (3/9/25)
