Is Rizwan Still Pakistan First Choice Wicketkeeper?

Left out of the current ODI series against Australia, Rizwan Pakistan wicketkeeper status has been put up for discussion, with emerging Pakistan cricketer Ghazi Ghori stating that Rizwan will remain the first-choice wicketkeeper batter for the Pakistan national team.

Rizwan Pakistan’s selection as the new wicketkeeper sparked a controversy, with many questioning why he was not included in the team for the three-match home series continuing till June 4. He was then replaced in the playing 11 by Rohail Nazir and Ghazi Ghori stayed in the side after coming into the fray against Bangladesh recently.

Described as the ‘rogue captain’, Rizwan was in poor form as Pakistan lost the ODI series 4-1 to Bangladesh at home and had to wait for Nafees to assume responsibility for the team.Rizwan had previously led the Pakistan side to series victories against Australia, Zimbabwe and South Africa but had a poor run of form in Bangladesh. He has only scored 54 runs with an average of 19.33, which is why he is not included in the current squad.

The Rizwan Pakistan wicket keeper controversy escalated further when rumors spread that his ODI international career might be coming to an end. But these assertions were rebutted by captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, who recently stated that Rizwan will be a part of the team’s long-term plans.

On the other hand, Ghazi Ghori’s declaration further clarifies the matter, giving credence to the fact that the management still believes that Rizwan is a strong candidate in the wicketkeeping job. Despite his lack of form, he still has value based on his experience.
