ICC T20I Rankings: Pakistan Slip Continues
Pakistan’s latest ICC rankings for the T20I format have witnessed a further trend of declining performances by a number of Pakistani players. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released its latest T20I rankings list and several Pakistani players have seen their rankings drop in the update. Sahibzada Farhan is Pakistan’s only consistent performer with 3rd position in the ICC T20I batting rankings.
Though he has a few wobblers at his side, Farhan has held his rating steady and Pakistan are always in the top tier of the global batting chart. Other Pakistani batsmen, however, have seen a drop. Again, Saim Ayub fell in position from 36th to 38th with 560 rating points, a slight, but significant drop in form or impact. Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam has also fallen, this time to 41st place, as continued pressure continues to be put on Pakistan’s top batting order in the shortest format.
Salman Ali Agha, the skipper of the T20I team, slipped down two places to 43rd position with 547 points, while veteran left-hander Fakhar Zaman, who played 19 matches in the shortest format, finished one spot ahead of 72nd, with 481 points. These joint collapses highlight the overall uncertainty of the Pakistan’s batting order in T20Is. India’s Abhishek Sharma remains in the top of the ICC T20I batting chart while Ishan Kishan is in second place, showcasing India’s batting supremacy in the present format.
Bowling saw a little movement in Pakistan; no changes were made. Mohammad Nawaz retained his 11thrank in the ICC T20I bowling rankings while Salman Mirza remained unchanged at 20th. The recent ICC update indicates that the gap between the top player and the rest of the team is now even wider, which could create some concern on consistency in the future for Pakistan in international T20 cricket.
