ICC Launches Probe Into PCB Over Asia Cup Protocol Breach

The conflict between the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has intensified following reports that Pakistan might have violated the tournament protocols during the ongoing Asia Cup 2025.
The ICC is also conducting an inquiry into a case in which the Pakistani media’s manager allegedly taped a pre-match meeting in a restricted Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA). The group meeting was with ICC match referee Andy Pycroft, captain Salman Ali Agha, and coach Mike Hesson ahead of the group confronting the UAE.
The PCB subsequently posted a brief video on its social media accounts, citing that Pycroft has since apologised for mishandling the India-Pakistan handshake scandal. The post caused a lot of discussion, and whether there was a pre-approval regarding the recording within the PMOA was questioned.
Although the ICC has not made an official statement, there are reports that the issue may lead to disciplinary measures. The board perceives the footage disclosure as a potential breach of the media access codes. Pakistani journalists have, however, protested that the manager’s access to the PMOA is normal, and there was no audio in the clip.
It is announced at a time when PCB and ICC relations are already tense, and the notorious handshake-gate case is still fresh in mind. The most recent investigation might widen the divide and obscure the cricketing story of the Asia Cup.
