EU4Culture, cuisine highlights the hidden heritage of Kurbin in Albania

Kurbini is an area in Albania from which visitors take with them impressions not only of what they see there but also of those they meet: generous, simple people who carry their heritage into everyday life.

Part of this heritage is also the cuisine, which has recently become the subject of the project “Timeless Tastes: Indulge into the flavours and ballads of Kurbin”, implemented by the Albanian Local Capacity Development Foundation (ALCDF) within the framework of the EU4Culture program.

The aim of the project was simple but essential: to bring to light the hidden heritage of Kurbin by connecting tradition with skills, the community and sustainable tourism.

At the center of this journey stands Dhurata Thanasi, culinary entrepreneur and food activist. She entered the kitchens, gardens and family yards, precisely where different generations came together; grandmothers, mothers and young people, sharing recipes, memories and knowledge passed down from generation to generation.

The project also brought the publication by ALCDF, “The Kurbin Recipe Book”, valuing the knowledge, creativity and empowerment of local women. EU4Culture stated on social networks that such initiatives connect tradition, skills and sustainable tourism, creating spaces where culture and community come together. (26 January)
