England Name XI for 1st T20I vs South Africa

The England team has announced their starting lineup for the first T20I of the three-match series against South Africa. The game will take place on Wednesday at Sophia Gardens.

Sam Curran, an all-rounder, is back on the T20 team for the first time since November 2024, when he last played against the West Indies. This will also be the first time he plays for head coach Brendon McCullum.

The 27-year-old was called up to the team late after a great season with the champions Oval Invincibles in The Hundred, where he hit 238 runs and took 12 wickets. The ODI series against South Africa, which the Proteas won 2-1, showed that England really needed a seam-bowling all-rounder.

Jacob Bethell and Will Jacks, who are both spinners, have been the fifth bowler, and they will both stay in the T20I XI. Bethell is supposed to bat third, while Curran is supposed to bat fifth, however England was flexible with their batting order during the ODIs.

Jamie Overton and Jofra Archer will lead the pace attack, while Adil Rashid and Liam Dawson will take care of the spin department. Phil Salt, the opener, is back after missing the West Indies series earlier this summer because he was on paternity leave.
