Babiš appreciated that Trump changed his rhetoric, considers Greenland an integral part of Denmark

Prague – It is clear that Greenland is an integral part of Denmark, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) told journalists in Prague today. He praised the fact that US President Donald Trump has changed his rhetoric and will not introduce additional tariffs against some European countries. After an afternoon meeting with trade unions, Babiš added that he had expected the change in Trump’s stance given his experience with Trump’s way of negotiating.

“It is clear that we are allies and we cannot afford any disputes between the United States and Denmark. It is clear that Greenland is an integral part of Denmark. President Trump has changed his rhetoric. We clearly stated that it is necessary to come to an agreement,” Babiš said today.

“We know how President Trump operates. It turned out as we expected. Yesterday (on Wednesday) he announced that he is withdrawing the tariffs, it is good news,” the prime minister added. According to him, he had anticipated that the situation would ultimately develop in a similar way, as it is known how Trump negotiates. “It is his style of negotiation, he is a businessman, but I believe that in the end this is a good preliminary agreement, that NATO will jointly guard Greenland,” the head of government noted. The danger from Russia and China is, in his view, real; Greenland is a strategic island.

As the Brussels server Politico stated, the EU is seeking a unified position on the behavior of US President Donald Trump, and among the key leaders is also Andrej Babiš. According to the server, there are five different groups of politicians divided according to their approach to the American leader. Each of them has its leading figure, and Politico identified the Czech prime minister as the leader of one of the groups, who belongs among Trump’s sympathizers. The server noted that this is only the second summit since “the billionaire and businessman Babiš returned to office.” His role could be crucial in demonstrating EU unity. “So far he has joked that he bought a globe to see where Greenland is and declared that Trump’s concerns about Russia and China are legitimate, yet he called for a peaceful agreement in order to preserve NATO,” the server recalled.
