Washington Sundar Ruled Out of ODIs
Washington Sundar of India applauds the dismissal of Josh Philippe of Australia in the first of the One Day International series between India and Australia at Perth Stadium on October 19, 2025 in Perth, Australia.
All-rounder Washington Sundar is an Indian player who has been disqualified to continue with the rest of the ODI series against New Zealand due to an injury to his side.
The injury happened when Sundar was bowling the first innings of New Zealand and had to retire because of the same. He came back to the bat later in the 8th place after Harshit Rana but had some trouble running between the wickets. During a short-lasting alliance with KL Rahul, Sundar had seven runs off seven balls and Rahul led India to win in the 49 th over with two fours and a six.
Following the victory of India, KL Rahul talked about the performance of Sundar and the way he had to struggle because of his injury.
He has also praised the team on its strategic approach which was brought about by the resilience of Sundar and he has clarified that when he was at the crease, it was important to handle the situation at hand and not to take unnecessary risks.
I only knew that he was slightly hurt in the opening innings, but I did not know the degree. He was hitting the ball well, and upon his arrival we were already at about a run-a-ball, and consequently, there was no necessity of making useless risks. He turned the strike and had his job to do,” Rahul said.
Washington Sundar bears a side strain. He was in pain while batting. He added that he would be evaluated by our medical team and updated.
Sundar is the second Indian to miss a series of ODI games after Rishabh Pant that was declared out due to an oblique muscle tear during training in advance of the first ODI in the Vadodara.
Dhruv Jurel has taken up the place of Pant in the team and the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to do the same with Sundar too soon. At this point, India have a 1-0 series lead over the three match ODI series which is to be played at Rajkot on Wednesday.
