Trade expert wonders what price EU pays for US deal

BRUSSELS – A reciprocal import tariff of 15 percent has been agreed upon, but many details of the deal have yet to be worked out.
“The defenders of the deal will argue that the worst has been averted, that the deal creates stability for the largest trading relationship in the world, that the deal ensures the competitiveness of the EU, and that the cooperation between the EU and the US goes beyond just trade. I sincerely hope they are right. I mainly see an asymmetry that is set in stone,” said Lange.
“I want to ensure that our right to regulate, from digital services to CO2 pricing, is not jeopardized in exchange for this deal,” says Lange, who traveled to Washington multiple times for negotiations.
