Top Tips for the Business Traveller in Koh Samui

Welcome to the happiest airport in the world. Koh Samui’s private airport is a tropical paradise in itself – with a boulevard full of shops and cafes, colourful trees and flowers, with open-air seating areas surrounded by bamboo and thatched rooftops. A warm breeze and flowers welcome you to this beautiful island.
Only second in size to Phuket, Koh Samui is a quieter island with coconut groves, waterfalls, Anthgong Marine National Park, and nearby islands full of monkeys. If you want more excitement, head to the buzzy area of Chaweng with a plethora of buzzy restaurants. We went there to watch a Muay Thai boxing match at Phetch Buncha Boxing Stadium which showcased a blend of tradition, Wai Kru Ram Muay dancing, athletic skill, and heart.
With 12 Michelin guide restaurants on the island, our favourite Thai dining spot Kapi Sator was awarded “Bib Gourmand” (Michelin guide gives this award to their selected restaurants with value for money). This culinary gem served incredible dishes such as prawn cake, crispy pork, slow-simmered pork stew, deep fried fish with basil, fluffy omelette, and the most delicious homemade rotis. The best location for a coffee is the beautifully designed Coco Tam’s in Fisherman’s Village. Coco Tam’s is a café and separate restaurant with inside and beachside seating. There are quite good croissants at French bakery Le Fabrique in Lamai.
We stayed at the gorgeous Ammatara Pura Pool Villas: incredibly secluded 5-star villas located on the quiet side of the island – Lamai beach.
Ammatara Pura Pool Villas – Grandeur meets Tradition
The boutique 5-star Ammatara Pura Pool Villas are unique, with stand-out traditional Thai architecture and bespoke interior design which makes you feel like royalty.
As you enter a small winding road into the property, the entrance feels like a Thai temple which resonates as the designer built these lavish luxury villas to resemble a 1200-year-old Thai palace. The ethos of Ammatara is to offer “Raja Living” – the experience of living like a king or queen.
The award-winning 18 individual villas feel like regal apartments, and they boast grand furnishings and carefully curated art. Each detail in these beautiful villas is eye-catching with a huge stone bath, enclosed outdoor shower, plunge pool, two separate bathroom sinks, walk-in wardrobe, huge bed, lounge seating area, and a fully equipped kitchen complete with washing machine. This isn’t just a place to enjoy a luxury holiday, it is a family-run retreat where one can stay for weeks at a time as a second home which many residents do. The huge size layout of the villas makes you feel like you are staying in a home away from home.
Thai and European dining options can be served in your private villa or in the open-air restaurant and bar overlooking the serene beach. The restaurant boasts an extensive fine wine list, an award-winning cocktail menu, and dishes with locally sourced ingredients. The menu offers Halal, Vegan, and Vegetarian options. The breakfast items include an array of sweet pancakes, waffles, fresh fruits as well as French pastries brought in fresh every morning from the local French bakery.
The peacefulness and privacy are second to none and the friendly hotel staff are accessible via WhatsApp to cater to any of your requests. From organising massages, one-on-one Muay Thai boxing classes taught by a former U.S. Marine and world-class MMA champion, yoga classes, snorkelling, jet skiing, deep-sea fishing, private market tours, traditional Thai dressing, candlelit dinner on the beach, to arranging a floating breakfast in your private pool – Ammatara provides a wide array of experiences to enhance your holiday.
For a private luxury stay with access to a quiet idyllic beach on the paradisical island of Koh Samui, Ammatara Pura Pool Villas is the place to escape to.
