The success of the Czech Republic depends on how the entire EU changes, said Fiala

Prague – The success of the Czech Republic depends on how all of Europe changes and how it responds to current international challenges. It is currently being hindered by excessive regulation. At today’s conference Czech Republic at the Crossroads III, which this year carries the subtitle Europe at the Crossroads, Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) stated this. He emphasized the need for a unified and pragmatic EU approach to American tariffs, arguing that a trade war would harm all parties.
“The Czech Republic is not an isolated island; addressing internal issues is not enough. Our success depends on how the EU changes and how it deals with current international challenges,” Fiala said. According to him, Europe is hindered by the clumsiness of processes within the union and excessive regulation. “Not only do they threaten economic growth, but they now also threaten security,” the Prime Minister noted. He pointed out some EU goals that he considers unrealistic.
Another topic of Fiala’s speech was American tariffs. “We must respond to them pragmatically and thoughtfully, even though the tariffs themselves are not pragmatic. What is essential is that an uncontrolled trade war would harm everyone, and we must avoid it,” the Prime Minister stated.
According to Fiala, the main priority of the EU for the future is security, including addressing illegal migration. He believes that a major theme is competitiveness, prosperity, and deregulation. Conversely, he sees a significant disadvantage for Europe in energy prices. “We are not moving forward quickly enough here; I am not satisfied with the latest proposals from the European Commission,” he added.
Regarding the overall transformation of the EU’s functioning, Fiala noted that it is necessary to respond to current challenges very quickly, which Europe has not yet been able to do. In addition to dialogue with the USA, he also called for the development of relations with other international partners and for measures against the flooding of Europe with cheap goods from China.
