The new chair country Denmark: “Ukraine belongs in the EU”

Aarhus – Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in Denmark for the inauguration of the Danish EU presidency.
“Ukraine belongs in the EU. It is in both Denmark’s and Europe’s interest. Therefore, the Danish presidency will do everything we can to help Ukraine on their path to EU membership,” says Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in a press release.
“We will both strengthen Ukraine and weaken Russia. We will strengthen Ukraine by increasing military support. Our contribution to Ukraine is also a defense of our freedom. We will weaken Russia with sanctions. We will increase the pressure on Russia,” promises Frederiksen.
In Aarhus, the official inauguration of Denmark’s six-month term as the presidency of the EU Council will take place on Thursday evening. Among others, the EU Commission and the Danish government will participate, as well as Denmark’s King Frederik and Queen Mary.
