The European Commission condemned the Israeli attack on the hospital in Gaza

The Israeli attack on the Nasser hospital in the Gaza Strip, in which at least 20 people died on Monday, including five journalists, is “completely unacceptable,” said European Commission spokesman Anouar El Anouni on Tuesday in Brussels.

“Civilians and journalists must be protected under international law,” the spokesman emphasized at a press conference. He also conveyed that the residents of Gaza “have suffered for too long and too severely,” and it is time to break the cycle of violence.

In the attack on the Nasser hospital in Khan Younis carried out on Monday morning, at least 20 people died, including journalists working for Al Jazeera, Reuters, AP, and NBC, as reported by local authorities controlled by Hamas.

It was added that the hospital was first hit by one rocket, and shortly after, when rescue teams were already on site, a second one. Among the victims were also rescuers. Dozens of people were injured in the attack.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called it a “tragic accident.”

French President Emmanuel Macron described the strike as “unacceptable,” emphasized that civilians and journalists must be protected in all circumstances, and called on Israel to respect international law.

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy wrote on platform X that he is horrified by the attack and called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

U.S. President Donald Trump, when asked by reporters for a comment on the attack, replied that he was not aware of it and added that he “is not happy about it.” He noted that “very serious diplomatic efforts are underway around the Gaza Strip.” (27.08.2025)
