The EU welcomes the release of Israeli hostages, ‘made possible’ by Trump
Brussels – “The release of hostages is a major success for diplomacy and a crucial step towards peace. President Trump made this progress possible,” says the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, on the social network X.
“The return of Israeli hostages is a moment of joy for families, and a moment of relief for the whole world,” says the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, also on X.
The EU is “ready to contribute with all the tools at its disposal to the success” of the peace plan for Gaza, which is to be signed at a summit in Egypt, in Sharm el-Sheikh, adds the head of the European executive, notably citing the mobilization of European funds for the reconstruction of this territory.
Kaja Kallas further specifies that the EU will resume its “Wednesday” monitoring mission at the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt.
The EUBAM monitoring mission, involving Italian, Spanish, and French police forces, aims to ensure a neutral and third-party presence at this strategic border crossing. (October 13, 2025)
