The EU defends its flagship digital law against Apple’s criticism

Brussels – The Union has categorically rejected Apple’s attacks claiming that the DMA (Digital Markets Act) should be repealed, with a spokesperson for the European Commission assuring that it has “no intention” of abolishing it.

Apple believes that this regulation has led to a degradation of the services provided to users of its products, and that it exposes them to risks from which they were previously protected.

“ The DMA should be repealed and replaced with more suitable legislation,” the group demanded in its contribution to a consultation launched by the European Commission.

In the absence of such a repeal, it proposes a list of profound changes, starting with the creation of a regulatory agency separate from the Commission, which would be responsible for enforcing these rules.

“ We are not surprised by Apple’s lobbying argument asking us to repeal the DMA,” because the Californian group “has constantly challenged every bit of the DMA since its entry into force,” emphasized the Commission spokesperson, Thomas Regnier. (September 25, 2025)
