The EC announces three competitions for the third edition of the New European Bauhaus Festival

SOFIA – The European Commission (EC) announced the start of three competitive procedures for the third edition of the New European Bauhaus Festival, which will take place in Brussels from June 9 to 13, 2026, the EC press service reported.
The festival is organized every two years. The aim of the New European Bauhaus initiative is to contribute to changes through the green transition that improve the way and quality of life for Europeans.
Among the highlights of the third edition of the festival in 2026 is the transformative power of democratic participation in creating more inclusive and sustainable communities. The event will showcase how citizens and local authorities can play an active role in shaping their environment, with a particular focus on affordable housing as a key component of democratic participation, the organizers point out.
The calls for expressions of interest relate to three components of the festival program: a fair – an exhibition showcasing projects that support the values of the New European Bauhaus; a festival that combines culture, art, and entertainment; as well as satellite events reflecting the values of the New European Bauhaus, which will be organized independently in Brussels, across Europe, and beyond. The deadline for submitting proposals online is September 30, 2025, for the fair and festival, and December 31, 2025, for the satellite events.
The New European Bauhaus initiative is linked to the EU Green Deal and aims to turn it into a tangible change on the ground that improves the daily lives of citizens through sustainable solutions for transforming the built environment and lifestyle towards a better one within the green transition, combining sustainability with good design that requires less carbon. At the same time, it makes these solutions inclusive, accessible, and affordable for all, while respecting the diversity of places, traditions, and cultures.
The New European Bauhaus, announced within the framework of the European Green Deal by EC President Ursula von der Leyen in her State of the Union address in 2020, is being created with the participation of thousands of citizens and organizations from Europe and the world, the organizers state.
The Bulgarian project “The Park” (Concrete to Culture) by the “Collective” foundation won an award at last year’s fourth edition of the “New European Bauhaus” awards. The Bulgarian project became a runner-up in the “New European Bauhaus for Champions” category for “Restoring the Sense of Belonging.” A project by the Bulgarian foundation “Collective” was also recognized in 2023.
The Bulgarian Telegraph Agency is a partner of the EC for the New European Bauhaus and for the Festival. (August 26)
