Sweden sends police to Copenhagen

Stockholm – Sweden is sending police to Denmark to assist with security during this week’s EU summit.

This includes motorcycle police and bomb dogs.

Denmark is hosting an informal EU summit that begins on Wednesday. Sweden is contributing “a larger police resource” as around 40 European leaders gather in Copenhagen, the police authority reports. Norwegian police are also participating in the effort.

“This is part of our Nordic cooperation, between the police authorities and at the request of the Danish police,” says Linda Hedmark, head of the operational unit Noa in a press release.

The last major Nordic police cooperation took place when Malmö hosted the Eurovision Song Contest last year, and Denmark and Norway sent police to Sweden.
